Full Plate

Back from camp. Now that’s a sentence I thought I’d never say, due to the immediate fact that camp seemed to stretch on for an exhausting period of time. But it’s over now, and I’m peacefully back in the comfort of my own blankets and warmth. Ah–nothing like the comforts of home.

Recently, life has been progressing in ways that I could never have imagined. I got my full funding for student loans for the fall, a sight I never saw coming. My best friend retrieved my acceptance package from the grip of my school’s exchange department. Despite a few setbacks (like said friend writing the wrong address on the package upon attempting to mail it to my mother), things when I returned from a stressful four day camping trip with work seem to be working out. All is in order. Plus, as an added bonus, the dresses I ordered for my cousin’s wedding arrived and I have selected my attire for the affair. Oh, how I love the feeling of new clothing against my skin. It’s my favourite thing.

Until next time,

Jasmine

Update: Packing for School

Well hey there!

I just wanted to fill everyone in on what is currently going on in my life, as boring as it may be. Well… it’s not necessarily boring, per say, just… I don’t know.

Basically, right now, I’m packing all my stuff away to head back to school. Dorm life. Yay. I am genuinely excited, though, to be in the city. It’s just the preparation that’s wearing me down.

Saturday is also my last day at Chateau, and I’m a little upset about it. I’ve grown very fond of the girls I work with, and I will miss them all. I am, however, happy to be done working in general. Time to focus on my studies! I will, though, be doing work-study this year, but that is only around 8-10 hours per week. Easy-peasy.

The big thing right now is making sure I have everything I need for my dorm, my classes, and my life. It’s stressful, to say the least. I barely have time to think about things like Outfit of the Days, trends, and fall fashion. But I promise that once moved in, I will come back with full force. Every Tuesday and Thursday. That is a promise I am making not only to this blog and you readers, but also to myself. I need to stay committed to this because a) I love it, and b) It is a place where I can have full free creative expression. I like that. Unedited (for the most part), candid, and personal work only touched by me. You can’t get that writing for a newspaper, as much as I love it. There’s something about blogging that’s just so… candid. Now don’t get me wrong, I love seeing a piece polished and perfected by my sectional editor at the newspaper. But it’s a different kind of feeling.

Anyway, this has been a short and sweet update (kind of) on what is going on. I move in fairly soon, so the next time I post will be (hopefully if the wifi works) after I move in. Wish me luck and see you soon!!

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Summer in the City

Image

Image

I spent the day in Vancouver with the best friend (who is behind the lens for these photos), shopping, gallivanting, and doing what I do best: drooling over pieces that I can not afford in Holt Renfrew. It was one of those days where the weather was seemingly unpredictable, so I opted to layer pieces in my outfit. On top, I wore a thrifted sweater over my lightweight, white button-down from Japan. On the bottom, I opted for my simple indigo skinny jeans from H&M. I loved how the forest green and indigo played together, and the white brought a crisp feel to the ensemble. And, really, it was ridiculously comfortable. When walking for hours on end, one tends to aim for optimal comfort.

List of complete items worn here will be posted below! Hope you all are enjoying the weather, where ever you are!

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Items worn:

Summer Essentials

Summer has always been one of my favourite things about living on the west coast. The long days, the ocean breeze, and the coolness of the forests. I love it all.

When it comes to summer fashion, though, I have some key items that will help me last until the school bells ring once again.

1) A printed romper.

The great thing about a romper is that it’s light weight and easy to wear. Adding some print to it will help to create dimension, as well as keeping it on-trend for with this season’s explosion of prints. I love this one from AX Paris because of the colour scheme, which looks effortlessly summer ready.

2) A Breezy Maxi Dress.

What I love about this one from ASOS is that it is airy, but still edgy at the same time. When ti comes to maxi dresses, flow is definitely key. They can be great pieces for the beach during the day, and taken up a notch for a dramatic evening out on the town.

3) A Skater Skirt

I love skater skirts because they are girly and easy to wear. Pair them with a crop top, or a tucked in button down, and you can look effortlessly chic. This one from Nasty Gal adds the perfect punch of summer coral to any outfit, while still keeping everything simple and fresh. It can also act as a create piece to colour block with!

4) A Pair of Cat-Eye Shades.

Nothing says sassy like a pair of cheeky cat-eye sunnies. They’re cute, flirty, and fashion-forward. These ones from Topshop take a different approach to the traditional shape of the cat-eye shades by altering the initial frame. I like the way they look both vintage and modern at the same time.

5) A Flower Crown.

You’ve seen them everywhere: Coachella, Lana Del Rey, Nasty Gal. Flower crowns have taken the fashion world by storm, and all for good reason. Giving an outfit a more laid-back, boho vibe, this accessory is one that will have you chilled out in a meadow, singing along to Summertime Sadness all season long.

And there you have it! My 2013 Summer Essentials. Remember to keep hydrated, slather on that SPF 60, and stay in the shade as much as you can! Summer is meant to be enjoyed, so keep yourself safe from the harmful UV rays and enjoy away!

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Fashion Inspiration

Some days, I literally cannot think of what to wear.

I will stand in front of the closet before me for half an hour, and still be unable to come up with a decent looking outfit. And I know I am not alone on this.

When moments like these arise (which is much more frequent than you might expect), I tend to turn to certain websites and people for inspiration. Not only does this help the wheels start turning, but it also gives me some direction on how I’m feeling that day, and what style I want to channel in order to express my mood.

First and foremost, there are celebrities. Now, for me, these tend to be Korean or Japanese celebrities, as I love East Asian fashion the most.

Here are a few of my favourites:

Image

This is Jung Eun Ji from the girl group Apink. I honestly love her style so much, both off and on screen. I especially adored her wardrobe in the drama That Winter the Wind Blows. It was so edgy and eclectic, just like her.

Image

SooYoung from SNSD (aka Girl’s Generation) is next on the list. She just oozes femininity and class. I love looking to her when I am in that girly, minimalist mood.

Image

No, your eyes do not deceive you; that is a boy. (If you thought otherwise, shame on you and your family). It is the love of my life and the fashion king himself, Kwon Ji Yong, aka G-Dragon. He–usually–is dressed in the most unique and interesting ways that make it impossible for me not to want to recreate them. The way he pulls off most of his outfits leaves me stunned. He is the forerunner in those that inspire me fashion wise. I look up to him so much.

Now, as for websites that are my go-to for inspiration, there are only a select few.

To start off, there is, of course, Lookbook.

Image

Honestly, if you have never taken the time to visit this site, you should do so now. It is amazing. Real people, all over the globe, showcasing their style and taste for the world to see. I get so many ideas each time I log on, and I love wasting hours browsing the endless amounts of photos. I should really start my own, but I am way too intimidated. They’re all so… flawless, for lack of a better word.

Next is Yesstyle.

Image

Both a blog and a clothing store, I always find cute outfit ideas and fashion advice for any occasion. I tend to stay on the blog side of things, as they always have advice columns and cool interviews with popular Asian fashion companies or celebrities. As well, they sell well-known brands from all over Asia, as well as the ever-coveted circle lenses that everybody and their grandma want to wear.

Finally, there is, of course, YouTube!

I have my favourite fashion bloggers that I follow on there, but the number one girl I always go to is miss Jennifer Im. Honestly, this girl is amazing. She’s gorgeous, and has a wicked sense of style. Her videos always inspire me to be fearless with fashion, to try out new looks, and to step out of my comfort zone on a daily basis. Check her out! Her YouTube channel is called clothesencounters and I’m pretty sure she has a Tumblr, too (but don’t quote me on that).

Other YouTubers who are great are Chriselle Lim, Amy from shopvagabondyouth, Sammie from beautycrush, Steph and Mel from fashioncitizen, and Vanessa from balletandpinkroses.

So there you have it! These are the many people and places that help influence the tedious decision of “What do I wear?” every morning. Check them all out and comment if you have any favourites of your own! I would love to hear about them!

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Fitness and Fashion

Fitness and fashion. Who knew that both could work so well together?

Recently, I’ve been starting to get back into the swing of exercising and eating healthy. It’s not an easy task, but I’m up for the challenge. You see, I used to be a fitness fiend. Running everyday, constantly doing Blogilates videos. But as university crept into my life, and my free time started to rapidly deplete, I found that I no long wanted to put aside time for health. No, I did not gain the notorious “Freshmen 15” (my body doesn’t put on weight heavily, so I normally only gain 3-7 lbs, but it looks like a lot on my smaller frame), but I did find myself slowly getting out of shape. After some time, I was disappointed on how far I had let myself go. Things such as a 6km run that were easy before seemed like a marathon to me.

So I have decided that with my newly found free time over the summer, I will get back into the fitness thing, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll score that swimsuit body I’ve been waiting all my teen years for. But we’ll see.

Fitness is such a big part of the fashion world. It’s not just about going out and running. Oh no. You have to look good while doing it. Think of the whole yogi trend going on right now. There is almost this chic image to Yoga, and if you’re apart of it you’re seen as this fashionable person, who is indie and new. Yoga clothing even supports this image, with retailers such as Lululemon and TNA producing yoga (as well as other workout) wear in fresh designs and colourful pieces. It’s become a fashion genre of its own.

Personally, if I am going to work out, I know that I am bound to get sweaty and my hair will inevitably become matted. This is why I want to make sure my attire looks funky and in style. My favourite fashion piece within my workout wardrobe is my long-sleeved, turtleneck running top from Under Armour. First off, it has an optional piece at the neck to bring up over your mouth for colder days (the material is made to be breathable) and this is so convenient for winter runs. The other thing I adore about it is the design: it is magenta and navy striped, which is so interesting and different for exercise clothes. It’s just one of those pieces that makes me feel cool while wearing it.

You can literally do so much with exercise apparel. There is neon, cut-out, polka-dotted, mesh. Anything. So mix it up. Exercise is a part of a healthy lifestyle, so why not make it funky and still fashionable with the numerous interesting pieces you can find out there at your local shopping centre. Have fun with it.

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Update: Finals Season

Hello there, world!

Right now, university has literally consumed my entire being. I literally have not been doing anything except studying, eating, working, and sleeping. Ugh. But soon enough, it will be over. I have my last final on Saturday the 27th, and after that I am free to do whatever, whenever. Thank God.

I have a bit of a dilemma right now, though. Nina and I have been contemplating getting Macbooks recently, as we both use HPs currently. I am interested strictly because a) they have iMovie and other great video editing software, b) they are great for formatting articles to be sent in for the newspaper, and c) they are much better laptops than the one I am currently using. Here’s the problem: I need to save money for school next year. I have to decide whether to just purely go on student loans next year, and use the money I earn over the summer to buy a Macbook, or to suck it up and wait until… Lord knows when. I really want to start making videos, like hauls, reviews, and ootds, and be able to not only upload them on a YouTube channel, but also on my blog here. I think it would be a lot easier, and would further my fashion blogger experience. So, needless to say, I’m stuck.

With that being said, I will be doing a review on the clothing I’ve ordered from Romwe, though it will be in text format. My shipment should be arriving soon, so stay tuned for that!

I’m off to study for Sociology now. Wish me luck!

Until next time,

Jasmine.

Update

Hey wordpress,

I felt the need to update you all on what’s been going on lately, and what I have (maybe) planned for the future.

As it would seem, it’s currently end of semester here at Uni, and things have been… well, crazy, to say the least. I have finals starting next week and upcoming projects due, so I have been sadly neglecting the internet.

But I have some exciting news! My two best friends and I are starting a YouTube page hopefully at the end of this month! I am so excited about it because we have been talking about it for quite some time now, but plans were never really set in motion. But now we’ve finally decided we are going to do it and I could not be happier. It will be split into 3 segments, one for each of us, which will include book reviews, health and wellness, and, of course, fashion. As well, we’ll be doing Vlogs of the three of us (or sometimes individual or in a pair), which I think will be the best part. I’ve been thinking about doing my own YouTube channel, but since this opportunity came up, I just couldn’t say no. It’s going to be a blast! Look out for me mentioning it in the future.

I will hopefully be doing an OOTD this week (fingers crossed) and once exams are done, I’ll be doing more fashion posts and trend reports.

Until next time,

Jasmine.
